On this day that honors the legacy and struggle of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fe (CAFe) remains grounded in our faith and unwavering in our commitment to fight for  New Mexico families. We know that faith without action will not create King’s vision of a “beloved community.” 

King’s beloved community is a society rooted in justice, equality and love. It emphasizes nonviolence, reconciliation, and the idea that all people — regardless of race, background, or belief — can live together in harmony despite our differences. The beloved community is a society where people care for one another, work together for common good, and share in the benefits of freedom and opportunity. 

CAFe will take action in 2025 to demand immediate solutions for families who are struggling to make ends meet and pay their bills. Second, we will demand that our local, county, and state public officials find practical, humane, and logical solutions to ensuring community safety. Third, that the state Legislature prioritize the resources for immediate mental health and behavioral health shortages in Southern New Mexico. Fourth, that students in all levels of education are free to be and express themselves, regardless of age, gender, and status – and that they are safe in school. Lastly, that our queer and immigrant communities are respected for who they are and not scapegoated on issues and policies that directly impact them. 

The next four years, and beyond, will be difficult for New Mexicans — immigrant and working families, LGBTQ folks, the unhoused, Black and indigenous people, and other marginalized populations. We know that though difficulties await, something greater also awaits in the power and hope of the people of Southern New Mexico. Through conversations in our communities, base building, and with our local and state partners, we are preparing to face those on-coming challenges united. 

Beloved community is not just an idea, it is a call to action. We as people must actively participate in building a more just and compassionate world. Although we face many challenges ahead, we can overcome them together.

 

The mission of NM CAFe is to unlock the power of people in Southern New Mexico by organizing and taking action with our families and communities, and that is what we intend to do in 2025 and beyond.

En este día que honra el legado y la lucha del Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fe (CAFe) se mantiene firme en nuestra fe y en nuestro compromiso inquebrantable de luchar por las familias de Nuevo México. Sabemos que la fe sin acción no creará la visión de King de una “comunidad amada.”

La comunidad amada de King es una sociedad basada en la justicia, la igualdad y el amor. Enfatiza la no violencia, la reconciliación y la idea de que todas las personas, independientemente de su raza, origen o creencias, pueden vivir juntas en armonía a pesar de nuestras diferencias. La comunidad amada es una sociedad donde las personas se cuidan mutuamente, trabajan juntas por el bien común y comparten los beneficios de la libertad y la oportunidad.

CAFe tomará acción en 2025 para exigir soluciones inmediatas para las familias que luchan por llegar a fin de mes y pagar sus cuentas. En segundo lugar, exigiremos que nuestros funcionarios públicos locales, del condado y del estado encuentren soluciones prácticas, humanas y lógicas para garantizar la seguridad comunitaria. En tercer lugar, que la Legislatura estatal priorice los recursos para abordar la escasez inmediata de servicios de salud mental y comportamiento en el sur de Nuevo México. Cuarto, que los estudiantes en todos los niveles educativos sean libres de ser y expresarse, independientemente de su edad, género o estatus, y que estén seguros en la escuela. Por último, que nuestras comunidades queer e inmigrantes sean respetadas por lo que son y no se les haga chivo expiatorio en cuestiones y políticas que las afectan directamente.

Los próximos cuatro años, y más allá, serán difíciles para los habitantes de Nuevo México: familias inmigrantes y trabajadoras, personas LGBTQ+, las personas sin hogar, las comunidades negras e indígenas, y otras poblaciones marginadas. Sabemos que, aunque las dificultades nos esperan, algo más grande también aguarda en el poder y la esperanza de la gente del sur de Nuevo México. A través de conversaciones en nuestras comunidades, la construcción de base, y con nuestros socios locales y estatales, nos estamos preparando para enfrentar esos desafíos venideros unidos.

La comunidad amada no es solo una idea, es un llamado a la acción. Nosotros, como pueblo, debemos participar activamente en la construcción de un mundo más justo y compasivo. Aunque enfrentemos muchos desafíos por delante, podemos superarlos juntos.

La misión de NM CAFe es desbloquear el poder de las personas en el sur de Nuevo México organizando y tomando acción con nuestras familias y comunidades, y eso es lo que pretendemos hacer en 2025 y más allá.
