EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Youth and community groups in Las Cruces will hold a vigil in remembrance of the victims of the Young Park shooting that left three people dead and 15 others injured.
“Youth Voices for Peace Vigil” will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at the Plaza de Las Cruces, located at 100 N. Main St.
The vigil is hosted by NM Comunidades en Acción y de Fe (CAFe), Inspirational Ministries, Holy Cross Retreat Center, and the Black Student Association at NMSU.
According to the news release by CAFe, there will be youth and faith leaders speaking, and there will be no politics at the vigil.
“I hope that this will help to bring the community together, along with giving some comfort to those directly impacted by this tragedy,” Christina Hernandez, a parent from Las Cruces, said. “The community needs to band together and encourage support and healing. More hate and violence on top of what’s already happened isn’t the answer.”
There will be police present to ensure the safety of the participants, and community resources will also be available, according to CAFe.
